I'm back home from a week of hall orientation! It has been fun and I actually haven't missed home yet :p There's so much to say I don't know how to go about doing it. I think I give the general idea here and then fill you all in on the details later k?
The hall itself is old but then it's a homely place and the people there are really nice. Our neighbours are all friendly and helpful and we look out for one another. The seniors are nice too. I mean, though they sabo us during games and all but then they are easy to talk to and they give us valuable guidance, especially with the bidding of modules that we're totally new to. Thanks to them, we got what we wanted. Honestly, I can't imagine how I'll cope if not for them. Living in hall.. when you see those faces every day for so many hours, you feel like you've known them for a long time even though it's been only a week.
Oh and they actually managed to convince us the importance of
tea time that we moaned when we found out that we'll have to miss tea cos of lessons. They keep stressing that it's a tradition that Raffles Hall is proud of, being the only hall to have tea. It's amazing. Like when you think about it, it's just tea. But they really make it out to be so important. We even had a tea initiation ceremony where we ended up drinking many many cups of tea cos they make us feed people left right front and back of us tea. They made us pour tea over ourselves too but being the clean girls we are, we cheated whenever we could and came out of it pretty dry and nice :p We even signed an agreement to come for tea and the pledge is something like this:
I, freshman of Raffles Hall, do solemnly pledge to come for tea every day, rain or shine, occupied or unoccupied, conscious or subconscious, or other unforeseen circumstances. I will go for one serving, two servings, three servings or till I am weary.I salute the person who wrote this. It is so ridiculous that we can memorise it. haha.
Games, room sessions, block initiation... will tell you all more about them when we meet up! :)
love,
shumin
